What I find interesting is that in verses 1-2 it tells us that we are to carry each other’s burden.
Brothers and sisters, if someone is caught in a sin, you who live by the Spirit should restore that person gently. But watch yourselves, or you also may be tempted. 2 Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ.
But yet in verses 4-5, It tells us that we should carry our own load.
4 Each one should test their own actions. Then they can take pride in themselves alone, without comparing themselves to someone else, 5 for each one should carry their own load.
So the question I have is,
- Is there a difference between BURDEN and LOAD?
- If there is, what are the differences and implications?
Let’s explore those two questions.
- βάρη-Burdens- in this context means “struggles or responsibilities”
- φορτίον-Load- Galatians 6:5 in this context it means singular “struggle or responsibility”
The implication is that sharing βάρη-Burdens, can look like “encouragement or a firm rebuke”. Not at Your own temptation.
While φορτίον-Load, means that You are picking Your own burden up.
There is one specific WARNING given that is of note… “BE CAREFUL, LEST YOU BE TEMPTED YOURSELF!!!
Tell me what Your thoughts are.
